The series revolves around Damali Richards, a young black woman whose main goal in life is to succeed as a musical artist. If you like shows like Supernatural, Grimm, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Sleepy Hollow, you would probably love the Vampire Huntress Legend series, and if they made a television show out of it, you’d probably be instantly addicted. This extremely well-written paranormal suspense series combines elements of gritty urban fantasy and paranormal romance with outright, edge-of-your-seat, bloody, gory horror. If someone were to ask me what horror by a black female author was most likely to wind up as a television series, I would say without a doubt, L.A. Bank’s Bad Ass Black Vampire Slayer by Sumiko Saulson Why television needs Damali Richards, L.A.

The whole project took longer than I expected but it has been a labour of love. It couldn’t take much more than 22 hours, so recording it wouldn’t take much longer than a week or so. My experience of reading out loud in writing groups meant I knew that I could narrate 1000 words easily in ten minutes, so although my memoir is quite a tome at 374 pages and a little under 130,000 words, it was doable. Initially I was too busy and distracted to get down to it, but eventually I began, having no idea how long it would take. It was an idea I’d been incubating for yonks, ever since Shaista Tayabali suggested it when I spoke to her reading group. The Book Club had invited Jane, GP and travel writer, to share her memoir, A Glimpse of Eternal Snows: A Journey of Love and Loss in the Himalayas, and when the reading and Q&A were over and we were chin wagging over snacks, I asked Jane if there was an audiobook version Dad could read. On a cold November evening, eleven years ago, Mum and I entered what used to be the Olde Post Office down the road (now our friend Sue's cosy, charming cottage), to attend a reading by Dr Jane Wilson-Howarth. I've only read one other book in this universe so far, Aliens: Earth Hive, but found that to be infinitely better than this AVP entry. Overall I liked this book, but it was definitely disappointing, given it is often cited as one of the best books in the Aliens / Predator / Prometheus universe. The Predators breed the Xenomorphs on random planets and then hunt them as the ultimate prey, and the humans, as often happens in the AVP universe, get caught in the crossfire. Predator: Prey, Machiko Noguchi, the leader of the colony on the planet Ryushi, teams up with a Yautja (Predator) warrior to help defend the colony against a Xenomorph (Alien) attack. To find out what the good doctor is hiding, 007 must enlist the aid of local fisherman Quarrel and alluring beachcomber Honeychile Rider. On this island, all suspicious activity leads inexorably to Dr Julius No, a reclusive megalomaniac with steel pincers for hands. But when he discovers a deadly centipede placed in his hotel room, the vacation is over. Dispatched by M to investigate the mysterious disappearance of MI6 s Jamaica station chief, Bond was expecting a holiday in the sun. Synopsis: The sixth James Bond thriller from Ian Fleming s typewriter. Looks a bit scruffy, but is still intact with no markings. Cover has a ringed stain on the front and some stains to the back and is quite scuffed. Condition: (see pics.) First paperback copy. It’s time for Janna’s (carefully planned) summer of love to begin-starting right at the wedding.īut it wouldn’t be a wedding if everything went according to plan. She’s finished high school, ready for college…and ready for Nuah. The last time she saw him, Janna wasn’t ready to reciprocate his feelings for her. Janna Yusuf is so excited for the weekend: her brother Muhammad’s getting married, and she’s reuniting with her mom, whom she’s missed the whole summer. In this fun and fresh sequel to Saints and Misfits, Janna hopes her brother’s wedding will be the perfect start to her own summer of love, but attractive new arrivals have her more confused than ever. I really loved the first book in this series so I’m very excited to get to spend more time with these characters in what sounds like the perfect summer read. My selection for this week is MISFIT IN LOVE by S. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme. “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. Shopaholic ties the knot is the third book in the Shopaholic series. Shopaholic Ties The Knot… because you only do it once. Time’s ticking by, plans are being made both sides of the Atlantic and soon she realises she’s in trouble… Luke’s mother wants to host a grand extravaganza at the New York Plaza, complete with woodland glade and the New York Philharmonic.īecky knows she has to sit down and decide – but to be honest, it’s a lot more fun tasting cake, trying on dresses and registering wedding presents. Becky’s Mum wants her to get married in Oxshott and wear her old frilly wedding dress. Then Luke proposes – and all of a sudden life gets hectic. They’ve even opened a joint bank account (although they can’t quite agree on whether a Miu Miu skirt counts as a household expense). She’s got a fabulous Manhattan apartment with her boyfriend Luke. She’s got the dream job as a personal shopper (spending other people’s money – and getting paid for it). For once in Becky Bloomwood’s life, things are going smoothly. In the end, the readers realize that true stories are never found in history, but rather in the silence history tries to foist on us. The second part of this novel is a narration of one woman’s search for what exactly went down in the life of the murdered girl, that has been left undocumented by history. Instead, she pens another female character, who years later becomes obsessed with the death of the girl. She has amplified the silence surrounding the crime of the rape and murder of a young girl by Israeli soldiers by making no attempt at speaking on her behalf or giving her a voice. Shibli has captured the silence of history in the face of women’s oppression. Just like Scheherazade’s silence would have proved disastrous for her in The Arabian Nights, the silence forced upon the citizens of Palestine is destructive and venomous. A novel with minimal dialogue, Shibli talks about a silence that shapes the contours of the land and dictates the conditions of Israeli occupation in Palestine. For this new novel is certainly the best action-thriller since Robert Littell's underrated The Amateur and Thomas Perry's Edgar-winner, The Butcher's Boy. Anyone who knows Morrell's classic chase novel, First Blood, has probably already started for the bookstore. Sound too good to be true? Then just read The Brotherhood of the Rose by David Morrell. IMAGINE a suspense thriller as riveting as The Thirty-Nine Steps or Rogue Male, featuring heroes the equal of Adam Hall's Quiller, and crackling with more action than The Road Warrior, Dirty Harry and The Seven Samurai combined.
